Manchester United ‘under investigation’ over claims people were served ‘raw chicken’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United are under investigation by Trafford Council after several people alleged they became unwell after being served raw chicken during an event hosted at Old Trafford.

United, who declined to comment, are also conducting an internal investigation after receiving complaints from guests who attended an event hosted at the club’s stadium in recent months. The precise nature of the event is not known.

The club earns significant revenue from serving food and hosting events and a downgrade on their hygiene rating could impact that. The news comes as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is poised to purchase a minority stake in the club and take control of football operations.

The INEOS chief is set to oversee a radical overhaul of the way the club is run, with United’s CEO Richard Arnold already announcing his departure. Arnold had been at the club since 2007 and has been replaced on an interim basis by the club’s General Counsel Patrick Stewart.

“It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years,” Arnold said. “Through highs and lows, the constant has been the dedication of our employees and fans.

“I would like to thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment, and wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future.” Joel Glazer, meanwhile, added: “I would like to thank Richard for his outstanding service to Manchester United over the past 16 years, and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.

“We are fortunate to be able to call on the deep knowledge and experience of Patrick Stewart to provide interim stability and continuity as we embark on a search for a new permanent CEO.”

Arnold’s departure is expected to be the first of many as Mirror Football understands that the club’s Football Director, John Murtough, could also be on his way out also after two-and-a-half years in his role.
