During a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah, Mahmoud Abbas condemned the killing or abuse of civilians on both sides of the conflict.
“We reject the practices of killing civilians or abusing them on both sides because they contravene morals, religion, and international law,” the official Palestinian news agency Wafa quoted Abbas as saying.
“We renounce violence and adhere to international legitimacy, peaceful popular resistance and political action as a path to achieving our national goals,” he said.

Who is Mahmoud Abbas: The 87-year-old has been leader of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank for the past 18 years.
His initial four-year term has been extended repeatedly because of a failure to hold elections in the territory.
He is broadly unpopular among the Palestinian people who see him as the face of a failed process to pursue Palestinian statehood.
But the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, is due to meet him tomorrow, suggesting he could play a role in any resolution of the conflict.
