Bandits have attacked a mosque in Allah Babba community, Sabon Layi Village of Kakangi Constituency in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to Daily Trust, the bandits killed the Imam and one other person, injuring two other worshippers.

The attack took place around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

They reportedly struck while people gathered for congregational prayer in the small village situated between Tashar Keji and Sabon Layi village of Birnin Gwari LGA.

A resident of the community, speaking anonymously, revealed that the bandits emerged from the Kamuku Forest while wearing security uniforms and were en route to the Tegina axis of Niger State.

“They arrived during the morning prayer and entered the mosque, opening fire on the worshippers, killing our Imam and one other person. Two other individuals sustained gunshot wounds,” he reported.

The deceased victims were identified as Mamuda ga Allah Babba and Kabiru ga Allah Babba, while the injured individuals were Bilya Mai Rabo and Ashiru Mai Rabo.

When contacted, Ishaq Kasai, the Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), confirmed the attack and described it as a tragic incident.

According to him, the villagers had called the previous night to report the presence of bandits in the area, heading towards the Tegina axis.

Kasai added that those who were injured were currently receiving medical attention in the hospital.

In a similar vein, the Member representing Kakangi Constituency, at the State Assembly Yahaya Musa, confirmed the incident.

He said the Councilor representing the area, as well as the Interim Chairman of the LGA, had contacted him regarding the matter.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached by phone.

A similar attack happened last month, resulting in the death of nine worshipers at a mosque in the Saya Saya community of Ikara LGA.
