The directive was sequel to a motion by Senator Bala N’ Allah, the Senate Deputy Leader.

The senate, also mandated its Committee on Communication to carry out oversight on the process to ensure that Nigerians are not short changed by such hike.

Describing the planned hike as “a height of irresponsibility”, the Senate further mandated the Committee on Communications to look into the poor quality of service provided to Nigerians by the telecom operators.
