Spanish newspaper El Mundo has released a redacted copy of the contract Lionel Messi was presented with by former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu just over three years ago. This has reportedly made Messi furious and may announce his exit from Barcelona in the next few days.

According to the El Mondo report Messi’s entire contract, including variables, amounts to a grand total of €555,237,619.

92% of the variables stipulated in the contract have already been fulfilled, meaning that the total salary Messi has earned is €511,540,545.

The fixed salary, or the minimum amount of money the Argentine was scheduled to earn, was €245,314,080. Some of the most eye-catching variables include a €14,194,576 bonus for winning the Champions League, a bonus of between €9,463,064 and €4,731,532 for winning the league and a bonus of between €2,365,768 and €591,552 for winning the Ballon d’Or.

Messi also earned a renewal premium of €97,941,250 and a loyalty premium of €66,240,462, as well as a fixed image contract of €43,290,720. The timing of the release of the contract is curious given it comes at a time when Messi’s future is undecided. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are keenly interested in securing his services when he becomes a free agent this summer.

Despite having previously said that he wouldn’t make a public decision on whether he’s going to stay at or leave Barcelona until the end of the season, latest reports by Caught Offside indicate that Lionel Messi will announce his intentions in the coming days.

The revelations have come at a bad time for Ronald Koeman, with the blaugrana coming into their own after a difficult start to the season. They face Athletic Bilbao this evening at Camp Nou, and should they win they’ll go second, seven points off La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid depending on their result this afternoon.

The Catalans are also still live in the Copa del Rey, where they face Granada in the quarter-finals, and the Champions League, where they face Paris-Saint Germain, one of Messi’s most persistent suitors, in the last 16.

Messi is reportedly very furious about the leak of his contract details, affirming that he recently warned the club that if any further leaks affected him or his family he would call time on his career at Camp Nou and seek pastures new. Now that’s happened, it would seem that the end is in sight.
