The Israeli Defence Force claims to have taken out Hamas’ head of weapons after reaching the heart of Gaza City.
The IDF report has not been independently verified. The force added that during the same operation, troops on the ground directed aircraft to two cells of militants that were trying to hit them with anti-tank weapons and rockets. The IDF strikes killed “several” fighters, the IDF said without giving any further estimates.
The IDF’s current strategy appears to be directing its military to take out high-profile targets in the organisation after an Israeli military spokesman said the leaders are “dead men walking … inside and outside Gaza”.
During the interview with Sky News Australia, he gave a long speech about the situation on the ground in Gaza, where he lamented the militants’ proficient preparation of the battleground.
In a clip he posted on social media of the interview, he said: “The mission [inside Gaza] is to engage with Hamas and simply to dismantle each and every Hamas stronghold that is buried underground in bunkers. We are doing that in slow and meticulous order according to plan. Our advances are good, solid.
