There is confusion across Ibadan, Oyo State capital, over the explosion that shook parts of the city.
The incident, which reportedly led to the loss of lives and properties, occurred late Tuesday.
Details are still sketchy, but social media have shared videos and pictures of large-scale destruction affecting filling stations, malls, fast food outlets, and residential buildings.
Mark Zacheaus, a resident who spoke with Daily Trust, confirmed the incident, saying the cause was unknown.
“It is true but no one can comment on the cause of this strange incident.”
In a video uploaded online, a pick-up van with the inscription Bodija Patrol Service was seen conveying corpses.
At least three bodies were seen inside the van which waded to a crowded street.
“Jesus! Jesus!” a male voice screamed as people gathered in groups to discuss the incident.
A residential building was said to have caved in at the Eleyele part of the ancient city, leaving residents trapped.
The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, it reportedly affected.
