The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has paid a courtesy visit to afrobeats king, Femi Kuti, days after the singer noted that he is not part of the ‘Obidient’ movement.
The term, Obidient, is used by the supporters of the LP candidate. However, a few days ago, the legendary saxophonist, cleared the air whereby he said he never insulted the politician’s supporters by calling them, zombies.
In his speech via a video on his social media account, the five-time grammy award nominee further revealed the reason why he cannot be an ‘Obidient’. The eldest son of the late legendary musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, stated that after all his family has been through at the hands of the previous Nigerian government, he cannot be obedient.
In a video making the round on the Nigerian digital space, the two men were see together while Obi noted that his campaign would be ‘issue based.’
Obi said, “My own dear brother Femi, I saw what he tweeted and I said, no, that is not what the society needs. We need a campaign based on issues, that affect Nigeria. That is what I came here to do.”
Veteran Nigerian singer and actor, Charles Oputa fondly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada as well Femi Kuti’s son, Made, were also in the meeting.
