The US has announced that it will provide $1.85 billion in military aid to Ukraine – including the first transfer of the Patriot air defence system.
The package includes $1 billion in weapons and equipment from Pentagon stocks, including the Patriot battery for the first time.
Ukraine has repeatedly asked its Western partners for air defences, including US-made Patriot systems, to protect it from heavy Russian missile bombardment including against its energy infrastructure.
The system, considered to be one of the most advanced US air defence systems, is an anti missile missile which means it’s good for taking down ballistic and cruise missiles.
