The Man Utd boss says his side won’t be holding anything back as they seek to put an end to neighbours City’s run of success in the Carabao Cup in Wednesday’s semi-final

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United can have “no excuses” for failing to end holders Manchester City’s Carabao Cup reign tomorrow.

Having reached three semi-finals last season, Solskajer admitted the time had come for his players to prove they can take the next step and reach a final.

Solskjaer said: “It would be a very big step, getting our hands on a trophy. We’ve developed a lot in the last 12 months, since the last semi-final.

“It’s not just about learning to win semis, we’ve earned the right to go all the way with our performances, we’re confident with our form, so no excuses.

“You play football to win trophies, to get your hands on a trophy, even though when you win you move onto the next one, but it gives you the hunger to win more.

“The squad is focused, ready to give it a go and prepared well for this game.”

United will be without striker Edinson Cavani, who will serve the second game of a three-match ban. “We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved,” said Solskjaer.

“He’s probably the only one out, and Phil Jones, who’s been very out for a long time. They’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good situation to be in.”

United go into the game on a good run of form in the Premier League, and remain level on points with leaders Liverpool after the Reds lost 1-0 at Southampton on Monday.
