A mobile policeman has allegedly shot dead a pregnant woman at the camp for Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, at Daudu, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Two others were said to be shot and in critical conditions.
Tribune identified the pregnant woman as Queen Zoho and said she was killed during a protest by some youths on police manhandling of commercial motorcyclists.
The woman’s corpse was reportedly taken to a nearby police station.
A source allegedly said a policeman had requested for a motorcycle particulars from its riders, but still dissatisfied when it was shown to him. An altercation allegedly arose and the “policeman started beating and hitting him with the butt of his gun”. The policeman shot indiscriminately, leading to a stray bullet hitting the woman.
The deceased’s mother, Paulina Zoho, said: “We were staying in Kogi State, but only came home for holidays, when we were caught in the herdsmen attacks on our community, who destroyed all our properties. There is no hope for us to return home as the communities are still under siege.”
The police in the state through their spokesman, Moses Yamu, denied any IDP was killed.
