Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the 2016 Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged the consensus governorship aspirant of the Adams Oshiomhole led faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State.

The members of the faction settled for Pastor Ize-Iyamu after a rigorous screening process which took place on Tuesday.

Four aspirants – Pastor Ize-Iyamu, Pius Odubu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Charles Airhiavbere participated in the screening while Solomon Edebiri withdrew from the race before the commencement of screening.

Members of the screening committee included Senator Francis Alimekhena, Lucky Imasuen, Hon. Samson Osagie, Thomas Okosun, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon,  Cecil Esekhaigbe, and Hon. Peter Akpatason.

Prior to the screening, the aspirants had agreed to accept the outcome of the exercise and work for the success of the chosen aspirant.

With this development, Pastor Ize-Iyamu will now have to compete with the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki for the ticket of APC in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

It is however doubtful if the two factions of the Party will have a single governorship primary as the Obaseki faction has settled for indirect primaries while the Oshiomhole led faction settled for direct primaries.

In the final analysts the court may have to determine the authentic faction of the party in the state. There is also the risk of APC suffering the same fate it suffered in Rivers and Zamfara States when its participation in the elections were nullified by the Supreme Court because of disobedience of court orders.
