The bodies of five children, believed to be aged one, two, three, six and eight, have been found in a house in Solingen, Germany.
Police made the tragic discovery in an apartment block and photographs show emergency services at the scene.
According to Bild, a grandmother phoned police to inform them that her 27-year-old daughter had killed five of her kids and was travelling with another child.
The mum reportedly jumped in front of a train but survived seriously injured and is now under police protection.
Reports add that the 11-year-old child that was with her is unharmed and is now with his grandmother.
The deaths were confirmed on Thursday but the cause of death is currently unknown.
Officers were called to the private apartment at around 2pm, Tag 24 reports.
The area around the block of flats is cordoned off.
One shocked resident wrote on Twitter: “Deeply dismayed at the news that 5 children have been found dead.”
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
A police spokesperson told Sky tg 24: “The investigation is ongoing and I can’t add anything.
“The lifeless bodies were found in a private house on Hasselstrasse in Solingen.”
