Kylian Mbappe has earned many plaudits since his emergence onto the world stage, but it’s especially meaningful when words of praise come from one of the best strikers in football history, Ronaldo Nazario.
The former Brazil international hailed the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s pace and finishing ability, stressing that he will soon become the finest player in the world.
“He is very strong, he has that speed and coolness in front of goal that will lead him to be number one,” Ronaldo said in an interview on ‘Bobo Tv’, Christian Vieri‘s Twitch channel.
“And I have read the news that he will go to Real Madrid and earn 50 million [euros] a year. We were part of the wrong generation (laughs).
“The football industry is growing so much that it’s only fair that the stars receive more and more money. If it’s like that today, it’s because there were players who inspired them, like we did.”
Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo went on to compare the professionalism of current stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with that of the strikers of his era.
“[Messi] is extraordinary, he has strength, speed and physical strength,” added Ronaldo.
“Messi is hungry for goals, then he is good off the pitch like all [players] of this generation, unlike us.
“I think that if we had the head of Messi and Ronaldo, we could have doubled our goal [tallies]… (laughs).”
Ronaldo also expressed his desire to see PSG star Neymar lift a World Cup trophy with Brazil before hanging up his boots.
“I hope he can win the World Cup,” he noted.
“In terms of numbers he has overtaken me, Zico, Romario… and now he is five goals away from surpassing Pele.
“I love him, he scores a lot. Then maybe there will be someone who will criticise him because of his private life and because he has won few individual awards.”
