Manchester United have agreed a record-breaking £85million deal to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.
The 26-year-old is set to become the most expensive defender in history after the two clubs finally settled on a fee that will eclipse the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. Maguire has made no secret of his desire to move to Old Trafford, but Leicester have stood firm on their £85m valuation.
The Telegraph claim United have reached that figure via several add-ons and Maguire is set to complete his move to the Theatre of Dreams in the next 48 hours.
The agreement brings to an end the protracted negotiations which have frustrated both parties and threatened to end without a resolution.
Maguire will become United’s third signing of the summer, joining Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James in the north-west. Jose Mourinho was interested in Maguire last summer but United refused to meet Leicester’s £75m valuation.
However, a disastrous campaign last season in which United conceded 54 goals in 38 games convinced the club’s hierarchy that the defender was worth the world record fee
