Manchester United climbed above visitors Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table on Wednesday night, by beating them 2-1, thanks to a brace from the brilliant Marcus Rashford.
The striker fired his side in front with the club’s fastest goal of the season so far, netted in the sixth minute at the near post of Spurs goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
The Reds’ no.10 also rattled the crossbar with a tremendous shot from distance as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team dominated possession and pressed hard for a second goal. But just when Jose Mourinho’s men appeared to be heading for a half-time deficit, they drew level through a brilliant piece of skill and clinical finish from Dele Alli.
Rashford restored Manchester United’s lead almost immediately after the restart when his blistering run into the box drew a foul from Moussa Sissoko and he calmly converted the resulting penalty in front of the Stretford End.
That’s where the scoring stopped, with Gazzaniga twice denying Daniel James and David De Gea proving equal to what little was thrown at him, as the Reds saw out an accomplished win to leapfrog Tottenham in the Premier League table.
