The Red Devils enter this weekend’s round of fixtures inside the top four, but they could drop out of the Champions League places before kicking a ball in anger if West Ham beat Newcastle in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
Lingard has been a peripheral figure in the United squad this season, and is still yet to start a league game in 2021-22.
That does not appear to have stopped him from putting the work in off the pitch, though.
Taking to Instagram, the 29-year-old posted an image of himself in the gym, showing off his ripped physique, alongside the caption ‘Feel good Friday’.
The 32-cap international has not always been known for his strength, but he appears to be bulking up in the hope of forcing his way into Ralf Rangnick’s plans at Old Trafford.
Lingard’s inspiration could be Ronaldo, who remains in tremendous condition, despite turning 37 earlier this month.
It was revealed back in September that United’s players had stopped eating desserts and sweet treats in a bid to get fitter following Ronaldo’s return to the club, and this certainly seems to have paid off for Lingard.
He is arguably in the best shape of his career, and could now be pushing for a place in the team alongside Ronaldo at Elland Road.
Lingard has endured a tough campaign, and was recently given time off after failing to get a loan move away from United in January.
However, having come off the bench in two of the side’s last three league matches, Lingard has been able to show brief glimpses of what he can do, and he may not be far away from finally being named in the starting XI.
