BURNS survivor Kechi Okwuchi shed tears of joy on America’s Got Talent: The Champions after judge Simon Cowell hit the golden buzzer following her emotional performance.

The talented singer, 28, suffered third degree burns all over her body after surviving a deadly Sosoliso plane crash at Port Harcourt Airport on December 10, 2005, which claimed the lives of 107 of 109 passengers onboard, aged 16 and was given just a 30% survival rate. The aircraft took off from Abuja and Kechi was one of the about sixty-one secondary school students from Loyola Jesuit College in the Federal Capital Territory in the aircraft who were returning home.

Kechi, who is now based in Texas initially made it to the 2017 talent show installment’s finals but finished in the bottom five of the top ten contestants.

Now back for a shot to win the spin-off show, Kechi was welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation before she even began her touching performance of Callum Scott’s You Are The Reason.

The judges were up on their feet

And after her incredible performance, the inspirational star received even more adoration as she got another standing ovation from the audience, as well as Simon, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.

Speaking after the performance, Mel B gushed: “I could see how hard that you have been working. There’s a huge difference. I just love you and adore you. You are a survivor.”

The music mogul pressed the golden buzzer for her

German supermodel Heidi added: “Kechi I have to tell you, I have to tell you that I am so excited that I get the chance to see you again, to hear you again.

“You look beautiful, you sounded beautiful, and it’s always a joy seeing you on this stage.”

Initially seeming to counter his fellow judges comments, Simon began: “Based on what I’ve seen tonight, I’m going to be honest with you, I didn’t really like it that much.”

As the audience around him started booing, the music mogul weighed in, “I actually loved it,” and then pressed the golden buzzer, which means Kechi is automatically entered into the finals.

As the realisation washed over her, Kechi was left stunned and began shedding tears of joy.

Still overcome with emotion, Simon walked on stage to give her a hug, and said: “I have always wanted to do that for you. This is what defines the word champion.”

Since her performance was uploaded to YouTube two days ago, the clip has received over two million views.
