For many hours, the parents of little Kosonye Mordi, a kindergarten 2 pupil in one of the private primary schools in Asaba were thrown into confusion and frantic search for their daughter who was kidnapped along Thomas Ogazi Street, Airport View Area of Asaba, Delta state.
It was gathered that little Kosonye was riding on her bicycle; an exercise she likes embarking on after closing from school when a passerby pushing the bicycle for her, later disappeared with little Kosonye. Her mother had been busy discussing with a neighbor, oblivious of the fact that her child had been taken away.The passerby was later identified as Regina Moses, said to be a commercial sex worker. She was said to have taken the baby right under the nose of unsuspecting onlookers, started playing with her and pretending to be her real mother. She soon quickened her pace, making her escape after decoying all around the vicinity.
But confirming the incident, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Mohammadu Mustafa told our reporter: “we arrested the suspect based on intelligence gathering and upon interrogation, she confessed she is a harlot, adding that she combines sale of children with her commercial sex work.We will charge her to court”.
The mother of Kosonye, Mrs. Theresa Mordi who was still charting with her friend, one Madam Onyenwego told our reporter: “I did not know when my daughter was taken away; she just took the baby away play, play, thank God, she was caught”. It was gathered that a search party was conducted after the suspect had stylishly disappeared along the Asaba/Benin Expressway after the Nelson Mandela Park, unfortunately for her, she was caught while waiting for a taxi to convey her out of the area.
Speaking to our reporter at the state police headquarters when the police boss brought her out before the newsmen on Tuesday, the suspect said: “I only do sales as part time business, I have only sold two kids, I sold one for N200, 000 in Onitsha, while the other one at Obosi for N300, 000. I am a commercial sex worker in Asaba. I use the sale of babies to enrich myself; police should please forgive me”.
