The 15-time major winner was taken to hospital after the crash on the border of Rolling Hills Estates.
Authorities responded to a single vehicle roll-over Tuesday morning just after 7 a.m. local time near the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes, a coastal city in Los Angeles County. Photos of the accident show a black SUV turned on its side in an open area with extensive damage.
Police say Woods, who was the only person in the car, had to be extricated from the wreckage with the jaws of life and was then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.
According to The New York Times, Wood’s agent Mark Steinberg said his client suffered multiple leg injuries and was currently undergoing surgery.
Woods, 45, was in California for a content shoot with Golf Digest/GOLFTV after hosting the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational over the weekend. Pictures on social media showed Woods with various celebrities at an event at the Rolling Hills Country Club near Los Angeles Monday, including former NBA player Dwayne Wade.
The PGA Tour released a statement saying “on behalf of the PGA Tour and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers.”
Former President Trump, who is a friend of Woods, also sent well wishes to the golfer, saying “Get well soon, Tiger. You are a true champion!”
