The embattled National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC} Chief John Odigie Oyegun has appealed to the electorate in Edo state to vote for the governorship candidate of APC, Mr Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday
Oyegun, who was asked to resign as the Chairman of the APC by Senator Bola Tinubu over his role in Ondo APC primaries made the appeal on Sunday in a broadcast to the people of Edo State.
“What is most distressing is that we have today lined up in the PDP the same people that were responsible for the disaster of ten years of PDP rule in Edo State.
“For the squandering of our patrimony, in a situation whereby not one single significant project, not one single road was done in those ten years. The same people are lined up again to ask for the people’s vote, and I want to plead with you to say a resounding no for a repeat performance of ten years of PDP rule”.
According to Odigie-Oyegun, “ I wish to make this final appeal to you, because of my deep concern and desire to sustain and make irreversible, the giant and laudable developmental progress that our state has experienced in the nearly eight years of the APC administration. All true patriots and lovers of our State must agree on the need to build upon and accelerate the current pace of development. We owe this to ourselves and coming generations.
“In the last sixteen years of democracy in our country, our State has experienced government by two political parties. It is incontestable that compared with the first ten years of the PDP administration, the nearly eight years of the present APC administration has witnessed tremendous growth in the infrastructural and human resources development of our State. I believe that all true patriots of Edo State would like a continuation of this tempo of development and even at a higher pace.
“Edo State has the singular blessing of producing the current National Chairman of the governing party, an advantage which should be pressed to the optimum benefit for our people. Your elected governor and the National Chairman working together will ensure and attract the maximum federal presence to Edo State. Edo state must retain its position in the mainstream of national politics to sustain and enhance the bargaining capacity of our leaders at the national table of leadership.
