Cristiano Ronaldo is set to fly to England today as he prepares to join up with his new Manchester United teammates, according to reports in Portugal.

The forward returned to Old Trafford following 12 years away last week and is poised to make his debut vs Newcastle on September 11.

Currently the 36-year-old is away on international duty with Portugal.

He continued to rewrite the history books with two late goals in his country’s win over Ireland on Tuesday night.

It saw him become the all-time leading international goalscorer but his celebration in stoppage time earned him a booking.

Ronaldo took his shirt off and was cautioned which will mean he is unavailable for Portugal’s clash with Azerbaijan.

The forward is now free to fly to Manchester and RTP reports that his official presentation, due to happen on September 8, could take place earlier.

Ronaldo himself is also keen to get settled in England sooner rather than later and begin preparations.

“It’s going to be beautiful. I want to prepare well because we know the Premier League is very difficult”, he told TNT Sports.

“This was my first game of 90 minutes. I felt a little difficulty. But little by little, things are coming out.”

Ronaldo will bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options with Jadon Sancho also arriving this summer.

They will compete for starting berths with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood.

The Portuguese star has talked up his relationship with the United boss, whom he played alongside in his first spell.

He said: “As you know, I played with him for two or three years at Manchester United so I have a good relationship with him but now with a different role, I’m a player and he’s a coach.

“But it doesn’t matter, my relationship with him is great and as I say before, I’m there in Manchester to help the team achieve his results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants.

“So I’m available for everything.”

Solskjaer himself has said: “You run out of words to describe Cristiano

“He is not only a marvellous player but also a great human being. To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad.

“Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started.”
