A warrant of arrest of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe has been issued by a Magistrate Court in Abuja.
In a report by Daily Trust, the magistrate court issued a warrant ordering the Nigeria Police and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to arrest Wigwe over his refusal to appear before the anti-graft agency.
The arrest warrant was ordered by Magistrate Taribo Zimizu Jim, who also ordered the arrest of a staff of Access Bank, Mrs Neka Agodu, for failure to obey a lawful order contrary to Section 28(10) of the ICPC Act 2000.
On Thursday, December 7, 2017, Access Bank PLC and top managers of the bank, were sued at an Abuja High Court for alleged refusal to obey ‘lawful invitation’ by ICPC.
In the charge by Osuobeni Ekpiwhre Akponimisingh, an ICPC Senior Legal Officer on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federation, Wigwe and Adogu were listed as defendants.
Wigwe and Agodu ran into troubled waters after Access bank failed to obey a Post No Debit order on Blaid Construction Limited and Braid Properties Limited.
