Chelsea have sacked their recently-hired commercial director Damian Willoughby after finding he had sent “inappropriate messages” prior to his appointment.
Willoughby only began working at Stamford Bridge earlier this month following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the Premier League giants. But he has now seen his contract terminated with immediate effect by the Blues. He had previously held posts at Manchester City and gaming company Electronic Arts following a previous spell at Chelsea.
But he has now been sacked by the Blues following an investigation into inappropriate messages he is alleged to have sent. “Chelsea Football Club confirms that it has terminated Commercial Director Damian Willoughby’s employment with immediate effect,” a Chelsea statement read.
“Evidence of inappropriate messages sent by Mr Willoughby, prior to his appointment at Chelsea FC earlier this month, has recently been provided to and investigated by the Club.
“While they were sent prior to his employment at the Club, such behaviour runs absolutely counter to the workplace environment and corporate culture being established by the Club’s new ownership.
