The Gunners academy graduate is very much the pride and joy of the Arsenal faithful but he has been told he should leave the Emirates if he wants to get his hands on some silverware

Arsenal superstar Bukayo Saka has been told he should look to leave the Gunners if he wants to add some trophies to his CV in the near future.

The Hale End academy graduate has carried the fortunes of his boyhood club on his back at times over the last few years, showing a kind of maturity that is certainly beyond his years. Having been handed his debut by Unai Emery in November 2018, Saka’s career has gone from strength to strength.

At 21 years of age, the versatile talent is now a fully-fledged England international entrusted during the biggest games for both club and country. However, he is yet to play a starring role in a side that has lifted a trophy.

Saka failed to get on the pitch for either the FA Cup final or semi-final when Arsenal last won a piece of silverware in 2020 and is undoubtedly keen to end his trophy drought sooner rather than later.

According to former England and Liverpool shot-stopper David James, Saka should up sticks to the Etihad and play for Manchester City amid interest from Pep Guardiola’s side. Those at the top of the City hierarchy are thought to view the Arsenal star as the perfect replacement for the recently departed Raheem Sterling.

However, a lack of Champions League football on offer is likely to soon become something Saka takes real note of. The winger’s contract expires in the summer of 2024 and boss Mikel Arteta is undoubtedly working tirelessly to try and tie the 21-year-old down to a new deal.

Arsenal’s fast start to the new season will certainly work in their favour when it comes to negotiations, but with City just one point behind them in second and boasting four of the last five titles, they would be a hard team to turn down should they come knocking.

James certainly seems to think so, as he told GGRecon: “I do like what Mikel Arteta is doing at Arsenal and Bukayo Saka is a big part of that, I can, however, understand why players want to move.

“What’s best for Bukayo? Well, if you want to be part of a revolution in a sense, then you should stay at Arsenal as they’re building something and they’ve not won the league for 18 years.

“You’re part of a revolution if you can get Arsenal to compete for the Premier League title, but if you want trophies instantly, then you’re almost guaranteed it if you go to Manchester City.

“I believe he’d be a wonderful addition for Manchester City. I’ve got a lot of Arsenal friends, so I believe he should move to Manchester City.”

Comments from Arteta last month suggest an Arsenal exit is anything but close for Saka, as the Gunners boss revealed: “I am very confident that we as a club, Bukayo and his family and agent are all aligned. Now it’s about putting that on a piece of paper.”
