A Security Guard Amputates His Employer

A 25-year old night security guard, Zakarayu Kasumi has landed in trouble in Lagos after he caught a suspected thief at night and used a sharp cutlass to cut off his hand from his shoulder. The incident happened at Adepeju area of Akowonjo in Shasha, Lagos where Kasumi was employed as a night guard.

It was gathered that the residents became angry when they saw the suspected thief, Adekunle Popoola who turned out to be one of the residents who engaged Kasumi as night guard in the area.

According Kasumi, he hails from Kano State and came to Lagos where the residents engaged him as their night guard because of the constant stealing going on in the area mostly at night. He said he was on duty when he saw Popoola early in the morning around 3am as he attempted sneaking into another house and he moved to stop him.

He said when he moved there with his cutlass, Popoola attacked him and he used the cutlass he had to cut off his hand. He then shouted, fell down and bled profusely. Kasumi said that when the residents came out and saw that it was Popoola, they started blaming him but did not ask Popoola what he was doing outside by that time in another person’s house.

P.M.Express reports that Popoola was rushed to a hospital where the doctors were battling to save his life. An embattled Kasumi was handed over to the police at Shasha Division.

He was later charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for inflicting injury on Popoola.

He pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor did not object to his bail.

Kasumi was remanded in prison custody pending the time when he will perfect his bail.

It was reported that the residents especially their leaders were afraid and decided to hand over Kasumi to the police to avoid being arrested if eventually Popoola dies as a result of the attack.
